Plow, blower, and bucket remove hard snow

I used all three snow moving attachments for this job. I delayed in removing the snow and it ended up forming a hard surface.  Not a lot of snow this time but the snow blower just slid over the top of the snow and was ineffective.  That gave me reason to get the BXpanded snow plow hooked-up to break up the hard stuff so that I could easily move it with the snow blower and bucket.  Although a pretty unusual kind of snow event, this caused me to think about which attachment is best to have if you were to select only one attachment? Well guess it is fairly obvious, the bucket can do it all! Not necessarily the most time effective way, but given the choice the bucket would win.

Kubota throws snow far

Video demonstrates the Kubota BX25 compact tractor and the Kubota rear mounted snow blower in action on fairly deep snow.  The snow was between kind of moderate in terms of weight and and this varied depending on whether it was moved there or fell there.  Overall I'm pleased with the performance of the snow blower and, just a reminder, it's wise to keep the engine rpm running near max to prevent snow jams in the chute.  The video was taken with my Axis Q6035E security camera so there is no audio. This is a republished video as I had tech problems with some of my postings.

Kubota tractor bucket moving hard snow and ice

Did a pretty detailed clearing of our parking area and drive ways yesterday because we had a blizzard warning in effect. The bucket is an essential tool when it comes to moving hard snow and ice.  This stuff is mainly created by the city plows doing heavy duty work stirring up compacted snow and pushing it back from the road.  This morning we have high winds but not much snow falling.  Visibility at times down to a few hundred feet and a lot of cancellations at the airport.  Schools would be closed if it were a school day. A bit risky using the snow blower to get rid of this hard stuff. The BX size compact tractor is ideal for this kind of work as it is pretty easy to manipulate especially when you have to keep your eye on the road traffic. (Note: this is a repost of the video due to an earlier technical prob.)

Some close-up's of Kubota snow blower in action

Had 3 or 4 snow storms over the last week or so and having lots of fun with the snow clearing. The rear mounted Kubota snowblower (Model B2789) is 51 inches wide and it can move lots of snow in a short period. No fun twisting my head to operate it but makes no sense to give up the bucket just to have a front mounted snowblower.  With the amount of snow we get here a bucket is pretty well required to make the snow moving fun and efficient. The chute rotation and deflection angle are both driven with 12 volt motors.  Kind of slow speed and I would likely choose a hydraulic system if I were to purchase another snowblower.  For those of you waiting - I will try to prepare a short video on the snowblower details over the next week or so. (Note: this is a reposting due to a technical prob.)

Fun without the sun

May as well enjoy manipulating the snow with the tractor.  This short video shows the Kubota BX25 compact tractor pushing back and building up snow banks (that the kids later used to slide on) in preparation for more snow down the road.  I would not want to be without the bucket.  The snow blower is the main rig for the wide variation in snow weights that we get, but, when the snow gets very heavy, like we have this morning, the blower is not that effective in throwing the snow any distance.  Got to the have the bucket for maximum fun!

Knocking down snow banks with the Bxpanded plow blade

Here's an excellent additional reason to install the BXpanded Quick-on snow plow blade.  The blade gives  a fair increase in height and distance and it really helps push back the snow banks that are now getting pretty serious here.  Winter is still on so I need to have lots of room for future snow falls.

Quick look at the Kubota rear mounted snow blower

Just a quick look at the Kubota rear mounted snow blower that I have on my Kubota BX25 tractor. In the video I point out the two shear pins, one near the gear box and the other near the pto output.  So far I've had only one sheared pin and this happened a couple of years ago when I was running the speed of the engine too low and was clearing 2 foot snow drifts.  The resulting accumulating of packed snow in the  collection guide was obviously too much for the pin and it broke.  Lesson is to keep the rpm near maximum when clearing deep and/or heavy snow.

Not exactly "small tractor video"

Thought I would throw this short video in for variety sake. Airport crew were cleaning up the runways after storm the previous day. Video a bit shaky because of the magnification, wind, and distance from the snow blower. Took this with the security camera (an Axis PTZ model Q6035 E). The Atlantic ocean is in the background and you can see the odd white cap.

BX25 snow blowing (long)

We had more snow than expected yesterday so spent a half hour or so clearing out the driveway. Made this video with my security camera (no built-in audio). To speed things up adjust the speed by clicking on the little settings gear icon.
